ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
soratt mahalaa panjavaa ||
Sorat’h, Fifth Mehla:
ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹੁ ਪੂਰਨ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਬਿਖੁ ਜਾਰੇ ॥
gun gaavahu pooran abinaasee kaam karodh bikh jaare ||
Sing the Glorious Praises of the Perfect, Imperishable Lord, and the poison of sexual desire and anger shall be burnt away.
ਮਹਾ ਬਿਖਮੁ ਅਗਨਿ ਕੋ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਉਧਾਰੇ ॥੧॥
mahaa bikham agan ko saagar saadhoo sa(n)g audhaare ||1||
You shall cross over the awesome, arduous ocean of fire, in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. ||1||
ਪੂਰੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਮੇਟਿਓ ਭਰਮੁ ਅੰਧੇਰਾ ॥
poorai gur meTio bharam a(n)dheraa ||
The Perfect Guru has dispelled the darkness of doubt.
ਭਜੁ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਨੇਰਾ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bhaj prem bhagat prabh neraa || rahaau ||
Remember God with love and devotion; He is near at hand. ||Pause||
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਆ ਮਨ ਤਨ ਰਹੇ ਅਘਾਈ ॥
har har naam nidhaan ras peeaa man tan rahe aghaiee ||
Drink in the sublime essence, the treasure of the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, and your mind and body shall remain satisfied.
ਜਤ ਕਤ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਓ ਪਰਮੇਸਰੁ ਕਤ ਆਵੈ ਕਤ ਜਾਈ ॥੨॥
jat kat poor rahio paramesar kat aavai kat jaiee ||2||
The Transcendent Lord is totally permeating and pervading everywhere; where would He come from, and where would He go? ||2||
ਜਪ ਤਪ ਸੰਜਮ ਗਿਆਨ ਤਤ ਬੇਤਾ ਜਿਸੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਗੋੁਪਾਲਾ ॥
jap tap sa(n)jam giaan tat betaa jis man vasai guopaalaa ||
One whose mind is filled with the Lord, is a person of meditation, penance, self-restraint and spiritual wisdom, and a knower of reality.
ਨਾਮੁ ਰਤਨੁ ਜਿਨਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਪੂਰਨ ਘਾਲਾ ॥੩॥
naam ratan jin guramukh paiaa taa kee pooran ghaalaa ||3||
The Gurmukh obtains the jewel of the Naam; his efforts come to perfect fruition. ||3||
ਕਲਿ ਕਲੇਸ ਮਿਟੇ ਦੁਖ ਸਗਲੇ ਕਾਟੀ ਜਮ ਕੀ ਫਾਸਾ ॥
kal kales miTe dhukh sagale kaaTee jam kee faasaa ||
All his struggles, sufferings and pains are dispelled, and the noose of death is cut away from him.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਧਾਰੀ ਮਨ ਤਨ ਭਏ ਬਿਗਾਸਾ ॥੪॥੧੨॥੨੩॥
kahu naanak prabh kirapaa dhaaree man tan bhe bigaasaa ||4||12||23||
Says Nanak, God has extended His Mercy, and so his mind and body blossom forth. ||4||12||23||

Sorat’h, Fifth Mehla:
ਕਰਣ ਕਰਾਵਣਹਾਰ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਦਾਤਾ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥
karan karaavanahaar prabh dhaataa paarabraham prabh suaamee ||
God is the Doer, the Cause of causes, the Great Giver; God is the Supreme Lord and Master.
ਸਗਲੇ ਜੀਅ ਕੀਏ ਦਇਆਲਾ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥੧॥
sagale jeea ke’ee dhiaalaa so prabh a(n)tarajaamee ||1||
The Merciful Lord created all beings; God is the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts. ||1||
ਮੇਰਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਹੋਆ ਆਪਿ ਸਹਾਈ ॥
meraa gur hoaa aap sahaiee ||
My Guru is Himself my friend and support.
ਸੂਖ ਸਹਜ ਆਨੰਦ ਮੰਗਲ ਰਸ ਅਚਰਜ ਭਈ ਬਡਾਈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sookh sahaj aana(n)dh ma(n)gal ras acharaj bhiee baddaiee || rahaau ||
I am in celestial peace, bliss, joy, pleasure and wondrous glory. ||Pause||
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸਰਣਿ ਪਏ ਭੈ ਨਾਸੇ ਸਾਚੀ ਦਰਗਹ ਮਾਨੇ ॥
gur kee saran pe bhai naase saachee dharageh maane ||
Seeking the Sanctuary of the Guru, my fears have been dispelled, and I am accepted in the Court of the True Lord.
ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਤ ਆਰਾਧਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਆਏ ਅਪੁਨੈ ਥਾਨੇ ॥੨॥
gun gaavat aaraadh naam har aae apunai thaane ||2||
Singing His Glorious Praises, and worshipping in adoration the Name of the Lord, I have reached my destination. ||2||
ਜੈ ਜੈ ਕਾਰੁ ਕਰੈ ਸਭ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਾਧ ਪਿਆਰੀ ॥
jai jai kaar karai sabh ausatat sa(n)gat saadh piaaree ||
Everyone applauds and congratulates me; the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, is dear to me.
ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਿ ਜਾਉ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਜਿਨਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਪੈਜ ਸਵਾਰੀ ॥੩॥
sadh balihaar jaau prabh apune jin pooran paij savaaree ||3||
I am forever a sacrifice to my God, who has totally protected and preserved my honor. ||3||
ਗੋਸਟਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁਣਿ ਉਧਰੇ ਜਿਨਿ ਜਿਨਿ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
gosaT giaan naam sun audhare jin jin dharasan paiaa ||
They are saved, who receive the Blessed Vision of His Darshan; they listen to the spiritual dialogue of the Naam.
ਭਇਓ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਅਨਦ ਸੇਤੀ ਘਰਿ ਆਇਆ ॥੪॥੧੩॥੨੪॥
bhio kirapaal naanak prabh apunaa anadh setee ghar aaiaa ||4||13||24||
Nanak’s God has become Merciful to him; he has arrived home in ecstasy. ||4||13||24||

ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਸਰਣਿ ਸਗਲ ਭੈ ਲਾਥੇ ਦੁਖ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
prabh kee saran sagal bhai laathe dhukh binase sukh paiaa ||
In God’s Sanctuary, all fears depart, suffering disappears, and peace is obtained.
ਦਇਆਲੁ ਹੋਆ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਪੂਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥੧॥
dhiaal hoaa paarabraham suaamee pooraa satigur dhiaaiaa ||1||
When the Supreme Lord God and Master becomes merciful, we meditate on the Perfect True Guru. ||1||
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜੀਉ ਤੂ ਮੇਰੋ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਦਾਤਾ ॥
prabh jeeau too mero saahib dhaataa ||
O Dear God, You are my Lord Master and Great Giver.
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲਾ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਉ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
kar kirapaa prabh dheen dhiaalaa gun gaavau ra(n)g raataa || rahaau ||
By Your Mercy, O God, Merciful to the meek, imbue me with Your Love, that I might sing Your Glorious Praises. ||Pause||
