About

A Sikh is a follower of Sikhi, a monotheistic religion that originated in the 15th century from the Punjab region in the Indian subcontinent. The term “Sikh” means disciple or student. Gurdwara means the gateway through which the Guru can be reached for spiritual guidance

In 9174, the Sikh community of Rochester began meeting once a month at  various private homes for worship. The Gurdwara of Rochester was registered as a non profit organization in 1976. As the community expanded, members started  searching for a permanent site for the gurdwara and located their current site in the Rochester suburb of Penfield. The building was built in December 1986 and the community started holding services every Sunday.
