ਸੂਹੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥
soohee mahalaa panjavaa ||
Soohee, Fifth Mehla:
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਬਚਨਿ ਰਿਦੈ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਧਾਰੀ ॥
gur kai bachan ridhai dhiaan dhaaree ||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਧਿਆਨ ਧਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ
Within my heart, I meditate on the Word of the Guru’s Teachings.
ਰਸਨਾ ਜਾਪੁ ਜਪਉ ਬਨਵਾਰੀ ॥੧॥
rasanaa jaap japau banavaaree ||1||
ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਜੀਭ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ (ਦੇ ਨਾਮ) ਦਾ ਜਾਪ ਜਪਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।੧।
With my tongue, I chant the Chant of the Lord. ||1||
ਸਫਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਦਰਸਨ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ॥
safal moorat dharasan balihaaree ||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਹਸਤੀ ਮਨੁੱਖਾ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ ਫਲ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਹੈ । ਮੈਂ (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ) ਦਰਸਨ ਤੋਂ ਸਦਕੇ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ
The image of His vision is fruitful; I am a sacrifice to it.
ਚਰਣ ਕਮਲ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਅਧਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
charan kamal man praan adhaaree ||1|| rahaau ||
ਗੁਰੂ ਦੇ ਕੋਮਲ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਦਾ ਜਿੰਦ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਬਣਾਂਦਾ ਹਾਂ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
His Lotus Feet are the Support of the mind, the Support of the very breath of life. ||1||Pause||
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਨਿਵਾਰੀ ॥
saadhasa(n)g janam maran nivaaree ||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਚ (ਰਹਿ ਕੇ) ਮੈਂ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਨ ਦਾ ਗੇੜ ਮੁਕਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, the cycle of birth and death is ended.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਕਥਾ ਸੁਣਿ ਕਰਨ ਅਧਾਰੀ ॥੨॥
a(n)mirat kathaa sun karan adhaaree ||2||
ਅਤੇ ਆਤਮਕ ਜੀਵਨ ਦੇਣ ਵਾਲੀ ਸਿਫ਼ਤਿ-ਸਾਲਾਹ ਕੰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਸੁਣ ਕੇ (ਇਸ ਨੂੰ ਮੈਂ ਆਪਣੇ ਜੀਵਨ ਦਾ) ਆਸਰਾ ਬਣਾ ਰਿਹਾ ਹਾਂ ।੨।
To hear the Ambrosial Sermon is the support of my ears. ||2||
ਕਾਮ ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਲੋਭ ਮੋਹ ਤਜਾਰੀ ॥
kaam karodh lobh moh tajaaree ||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! (ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਬਰਕਤਿ ਨਾਲ) ਮੈਂ ਕਾਮ ਕੋ੍ਰਧ ਲੋਭ ਮੋਹ (ਆਦਿਕ) ਨੂੰ ਤਿਆਗਿਆ ਹੈ
I have renounced sexual desire, anger, greed and emotional attachment.
ਦ੍ਰਿੜੁ ਨਾਮ ਦਾਨੁ ਇਸਨਾਨੁ ਸੁਚਾਰੀ ॥੩॥
dhiraR naam dhaan isanaan suchaaree ||3||
ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ-ਨਾਮ ਨੂੰ ਪੱਕਾ ਕਰ ਕੇ ਟਿਕਾਣਾ, ਦੂਜਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਨੀ, ਆਚਰਨ ਨੂੰ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਰੱਖਣਾ—ਇਹ ਮੈਂ ਚੰਗੀ ਜੀਵਨ-ਮਰਯਾਦਾ ਬਣਾ ਲਈ ਹੈ ।੩।
I have enshrined the Naam within myself, with charity, true cleansing and righteous conduct. ||3||
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਇਹੁ ਤਤੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ॥
kahu naanak ih tat beechaaree ||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਆਖ—(ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਤੂੰ ਭੀ) ਇਹ ਅਸਲੀਅਤ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾ ਲੈ
Says Nanak, I have contemplated this essence of reality;
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਜਪਿ ਪਾਰਿ ਉਤਾਰੀ ॥੪॥੧੨॥੧੮॥
raam naam jap paar autaaree ||4||12||18||
ਅਤੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਰਾਹੀਂ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਨਾਮ ਜਪ ਕੇ (ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਨੂੰ ਸੰਸਾਰ-ਸਮੁੰਦਰ ਤੋਂ) ਪਾਰ ਲੰਘਾ ਲੈ ।੪।੧੨।੧੮।
chanting the Name of the Lord, I am carried across. ||4||12||18||
