ਸੋਰਠਿ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Sorat’h, Fifth Mehla:
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਸਿਉ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਮਨੁ ਲੀਨਾ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਅਘਾਈ ॥
charan kamal siau jaa kaa man leenaa se jan tirapat aghaiee ||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਦਾ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਕੌਲ ਫੁੱਲਾਂ ਵਰਗੇ ਕੋਮਲ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਪਰਚ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ (ਮਾਇਆ ਵਲੋਂ) ਪੂਰੇ ਤੌਰ ਤੇ ਸੰਤੋਖੀ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Those whose minds are attached to the lotus feet of the Lord – those humble beings are satisfied and fulfilled.
ਗੁਣ ਅਮੋਲ ਜਿਸੁ ਰਿਦੈ ਨ ਵਸਿਆ ਤੇ ਨਰ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਖਾਈ ॥੧॥
gun amol jis ridhai na vasiaa te nar tirasan tirakhaiee ||1||
ਪਰ ਜਿਸ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦੇ ਅਮੋਲਕ ਗੁਣ ਨਹੀਂ ਆ ਵੱਸਦੇ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਮਾਇਆ ਦੀ ਤ੍ਰਿਸ਼ਨਾ ਵਿਚ ਫਸੇ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।੧।
But those, within whose hearts the priceless virtue does not abide – those men remain thirsty and unsatisfied. ||1||
ਹਰਿ ਆਰਾਧੇ ਅਰੋਗ ਅਨਦਾਈ ॥
har aaraadhe arog anadhaiee ||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਆਰਾਧਨ ਕਰਨ ਨਾਲ ਨਰੋਏ ਹੋ ਜਾਈਦਾ ਹੈ, ਆਤਮਕ ਅਨੰਦ ਬਣਿਆ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
Worshipping the Lord in adoration, one becomes happy, and free of disease.
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਵਿਸਰੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਰਾਮ ਸਨੇਹੀ ਤਿਸੁ ਲਾਖ ਬੇਦਨ ਜਣੁ ਆਈ ॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jis no visarai meraa raam sanehee tis laakh bedhan jan aaiee || rahaau ||
ਪਰ ਜਿਸ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੂੰ ਮੇਰਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਭੁੱਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਸ ਉਤੇ (ਇਉਂ) ਜਾਣੋ (ਜਿਵੇਂ) ਲੱਖਾਂ ਤਕਲੀਫ਼ਾਂ ਆ ਪੈਂਦੀਆਂ ਹਨ ।ਰਹਾਉ।
But one who forgets my Dear Lord – know him to be afflicted with tens of thousands of illnesses. ||Pause||
ਜਿਹ ਜਨ ਓਟ ਗਹੀ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਸੇ ਸੁਖੀਏ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਰਣੇ ॥
jeh jan oT gahee prabh teree se sukhe’ee prabh sarane ||
ਹੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਿਆ, ਉਹ ਤੇਰੀ ਸ਼ਰਨ ਵਿਚ ਰਹਿ ਕੇ ਸੁਖ ਮਾਣਦੇ ਹਨ ।
Those who hold tightly to Your Support, God, are happy in Your Sanctuary.
ਜਿਹ ਨਰ ਬਿਸਰਿਆ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਬਿਧਾਤਾ ਤੇ ਦੁਖੀਆ ਮਹਿ ਗਨਣੇ ॥੨॥
jeh nar bisariaa purakh bidhaataa te dhukheeaa meh ganane ||2||
ਪਰ, ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਰਬ-ਵਿਆਪਕ ਕਰਤਾਰ ਭੁੱਲ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੁਖੀਆਂ ਵਿਚ ਗਿਣੇ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ ।੨।
But those humble beings who forget the Primal Lord, the Architect of Destiny, are counted among the most miserable beings. ||2||
ਜਿਹ ਗੁਰ ਮਾਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਈ ਤਿਹ ਮਹਾ ਅਨੰਦ ਰਸੁ ਕਰਿਆ ॥
jeh gur maan prabhoo liv laiee teh mahaa ana(n)dh ras kariaa ||
ਹੇ ਭਾਈ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਦੀ ਆਗਿਆ ਮੰਨ ਕੇ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਵਿਚ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਜੋੜ ਲਈ, ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੇ ਬੜਾ ਆਨੰਦ ਬੜਾ ਰਸ ਮਾਣਿਆ ।
One who has faith in the Guru, and who is lovingly attached to God, enjoys the delights of supreme ecstasy.
ਜਿਹ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਬਿਸਾਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਬੇਮੁਖਾਈ ਤੇ ਨਰਕ ਘੋਰ ਮਹਿ ਪਰਿਆ ॥੩॥
jeh prabhoo bisaar gur te bemukhaiee te narak ghor meh pariaa ||3||
ਪਰ ਜੇਹੜੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੂੰ ਭੁਲਾ ਕੇ ਗੁਰੂ ਵਲੋਂ ਮੂੰਹ ਮੋੜੀ ਰੱਖਦੇ ਹਨ ਉਹ ਭਿਆਨਕ ਨਰਕ ਵਿਚ ਪਏ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।੩।
One who forgets God and forsakes the Guru, falls into the most horrible hell. ||3||
ਜਿਤੁ ਕੋ ਲਾਇਆ ਤਿਤ ਹੀ ਲਾਗਾ ਤੈਸੋ ਹੀ ਵਰਤਾਰਾ ॥
jit ko laiaa tit hee laagaa taiso hee varataaraa ||
(ਜੀਵਾਂ ਦੇ ਕੀਹ ਵੱਸ?) ਜਿਸ ਕੰਮ ਵਿਚ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਕਿਸੇ ਜੀਵ ਨੂੰ ਲਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸੇ ਕੰਮ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਉਹ ਲੱਗਾ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਹਰੇਕ ਜੀਵ ਉਹੋ ਜਿਹੀ ਵਰਤੋਂ ਹੀ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ ।
As the Lord engages someone, so he is engaged, and so does he perform.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਹ ਪਕਰੀ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੀ ਰਿਦੈ ਭਏ ਮਗਨ ਚਰਨਾਰਾ ॥੪॥੪॥੧੫॥
naanak seh pakaree sa(n)tan kee ridhai bhe magan charanaaraa ||4||4||15||
ਹੇ ਨਾਨਕ! ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ (ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਪ੍ਰੇਰਨਾ ਨਾਲ) ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਦਾ ਆਸਰਾ ਲਿਆ ਹੈ ਉਹ ਅੰਦਰੋਂ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੇ ਚਰਨਾਂ ਵਿਚ ਹੀ ਮਸਤ ਰਹਿੰਦੇ ਹਨ ।੪।੪।੧੫।
Nanak has taken to the Shelter of the Saints; his heart is absorbed in the Lord’s feet. ||4||4||15||
