ਵਡਹੰਸੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥
vaddaha(n)s mahalaa teejaa ||
Wadahans, Third Mehla:
ਇਹੁ ਸਰੀਰੁ ਜਜਰੀ ਹੈ ਇਸ ਨੋ ਜਰੁ ਪਹੁਚੈ ਆਏ ॥
eih sareer jajaree hai is no jar pahuchai aae ||
This body is frail; old age is overtaking it.
ਗੁਰਿ ਰਾਖੇ ਸੇ ਉਬਰੇ ਹੋਰੁ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮੈ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਏ ॥
gur raakhe se aubare hor mar ja(n)mai aavai jaae ||
Those who are protected by the Guru are saved, while others die, to be reincarnated; they continue coming and going.
ਹੋਰਿ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮਹਿ ਆਵਹਿ ਜਾਵਹਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਗਏ ਪਛੁਤਾਵਹਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸੁਖੁ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
hor mar ja(n)meh aaveh jaaveh a(n)t ge pachhutaaveh bin naavai sukh na hoiee ||
Others die, to be reincarnated; they continue coming and going, and in the end, they depart regretfully. Without the Name, there is no peace.
ਐਥੈ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਵੈ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਹੈ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਈ ॥
aaithai kamaavai so fal paavai manamukh hai pat khoiee ||
As one acts here, so does he obtain his rewards; the self-willed manmukh loses his honor.
ਜਮ ਪੁਰਿ ਘੋਰ ਅੰਧਾਰੁ ਮਹਾ ਗੁਬਾਰੁ ਨਾ ਤਿਥੈ ਭੈਣ ਨ ਭਾਈ ॥
jam pur ghor a(n)dhaar mahaa gubaar naa tithai bhain na bhaiee ||
In the City of Death, there is pitch darkness, and huge clouds of dust; neither sister nor brother is there.
ਇਹੁ ਸਰੀਰੁ ਜਜਰੀ ਹੈ ਇਸ ਨੋ ਜਰੁ ਪਹੁਚੈ ਆਈ ॥੧॥

ਕਾਇਆ ਕੰਚਨੁ ਤਾਂ ਥੀਐ ਜਾਂ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥

The body becomes like gold, when the True Guru unites one with Himself.
ਭ੍ਰਮੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਕਟੀਐ ਸਚੜੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥
bhram maiaa vichahu kaTeeaai sachaRai naam samaae ||
Doubt and Maya have been removed from within me, and I am merged in the Naam, the True Name of the Lord.
ਸਚੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਏ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਏ ਮਿਲਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
sachai naam samaae har gun gaae mil preetam sukh paae ||
Merged in the True Name of the Lord, I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord; meeting my Beloved, I have found peace.
ਸਦਾ ਅਨੰਦਿ ਰਹੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਹੰਉਮੈ ਜਾਏ ॥
sadhaa ana(n)dh rahai dhin raatee vichahu ha(n)aumai jaae ||
I am in constant bliss, day and night; egotism has been dispelled from within me.
ਜਿਨੀ ਪੁਰਖੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਆ ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਹੰਉ ਲਾਗਉ ਪਾਏ ॥
jinee purakhee har naam chit laiaa tin kai ha(n)au laagau paae ||
I fall at the feet of those who enshrine the Naam within their consciousness.
ਕਾਂਇਆ ਕੰਚਨੁ ਤਾਂ ਥੀਐ ਜਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥੨॥
kaa(n)iaa ka(n)chan taa(n) theeaai jaa satigur le milaae ||2||
The body becomes like gold, when the True Guru unites one with Himself. ||2||
ਸੋ ਸਚਾ ਸਚੁ ਸਲਾਹੀਐ ਜੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਦੇਇ ਬੁਝਾਏ ॥
so sachaa sach salaaheeaai je satigur dhei bujhaae ||
We truly praise the True Lord, when the True Guru imparts understanding.
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਣੀਆ ਕਿਆ ਮੁਹੁ ਦੇਸਨਿ ਆਗੈ ਜਾਏ ॥
bin satigur bharam bhulaaneeaa kiaa muh dhesan aagai jaae ||
Without the True Guru, they are deluded by doubt; going to the world hereafter, what face will they display?
ਕਿਆ ਦੇਨਿ ਮੁਹੁ ਜਾਏ ਅਵਗੁਣਿ ਪਛੁਤਾਏ ਦੁਖੋ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਮਾਏ ॥
kiaa dhen muh jaae avagun pachhutaae dhukho dhukh kamaae ||
What face will they show, when they go there? They will regret and repent for their sins; their actions will bring them only pain and suffering.
ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੀਆ ਸੇ ਰੰਗਿ ਚਲੂਲਾ ਪਿਰ ਕੈ ਅੰਕਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥
naam rateeaa se ra(n)g chaloolaa pir kai a(n)k samaae ||
Those who are imbued with the Naam are dyed in the deep crimson color of the Lord’s Love; they merge into the Being of their Husband Lord.
ਤਿਸੁ ਜੇਵਡੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਸੂਝਈ ਕਿਸੁ ਆਗੈ ਕਹੀਐ ਜਾਏ ॥
tis jevadd avar na soojhiee kis aagai kaheeaai jaae ||
I can conceive of no other as great as the Lord; unto whom should I go and speak?
ਸੋ ਸਚਾ ਸਚੁ ਸਲਾਹੀਐ ਜੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਦੇਇ ਬੁਝਾਏ ॥੩॥
so sachaa sach salaaheeaai je satigur dhei bujhaae ||3||
We truly praise the True Lord, when the True Guru imparts understanding. ||3||
ਜਿਨੀ ਸਚੜਾ ਸਚੁ ਸਲਾਹਿਆ ਹੰਉ ਤਿਨ ਲਾਗਉ ਪਾਏ ॥
jinee sachaRaa sach salaahiaa ha(n)au tin laagau paae ||
I fall at the feet of those who praise the Truest of the True.
ਸੇ ਜਨ ਸਚੇ ਨਿਰਮਲੇ ਤਿਨ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਮਲੁ ਸਭ ਜਾਏ ॥
se jan sache niramale tin miliaa mal sabh jaae ||
Those humble beings are true, and immaculately pure; meeting them, all filth is washed off.
ਤਿਨ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਮਲੁ ਸਭ ਜਾਏ ਸਚੈ ਸਰਿ ਨਾਏ ਸਚੈ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਏ ॥
tin miliaa mal sabh jaae sachai sar naae sachai sahaj subhaae ||
Meeting them, all filth is washed off; bathing in the Pool of Truth, one becomes truthful, with intuitive ease.
ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਅਗਮੁ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਬੁਝਾਏ ॥
naam nira(n)jan agam agochar satigur dheeaa bujhaae ||
The True Guru has given me the realization of the Naam, the Immaculate Name of the Lord, the unfathomable, the imperceptible.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਹਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥
anadhin bhagat kareh ra(n)g raate naanak sach samaae ||
Those who perform devotional worship to the Lord night and day, are imbued with His Love; O Nanak, they are absorbed in the True Lord.
ਜਿਨੀ ਸਚੜਾ ਸਚੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਹੰਉ ਤਿਨ ਕੈ ਲਾਗਉ ਪਾਏ ॥੪॥੪॥
jinee sachaRaa sach dhiaaiaa ha(n)au tin kai laagau paae ||4||4||
I fall at the feet of those who meditate on the Truest of the True. ||4||4||
