Aasaa:
ਕਾਹੂ ਦੀਨੇ੍ ਪਾਟ ਪਟੰਬਰ ਕਾਹੂ ਪਲਘ ਨਿਵਾਰਾ ॥
kaahoo dheen(h)e paaT paTa(n)bar kaahoo palagh nivaaraa ||
(ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਨੇ) ਕਈ ਬੰਦਿਆਂ ਨੂੰ ਰੇਸ਼ਮ ਦੇ ਕੱਪੜੇ (ਪਾਣ ਨੂੰ) ਦਿੱਤੇ ਹਨ ਤੇ ਨਿਵਾਰੀ ਪਲੰਘ (ਸੌਣ ਨੂੰ);
To some, the Lord has given silks and satins, and to some, beds decorated with cotton ribbons.
ਕਾਹੂ ਗਰੀ ਗੋਦਰੀ ਨਾਹੀ ਕਾਹੂ ਖਾਨ ਪਰਾਰਾ ॥੧॥
kaahoo garee godharee naahee kaahoo khaan paraaraa ||1||
ਪਰ ਕਈ (ਵਿਚਾਰਿਆਂ) ਨੂੰ ਗਲੀ ਹੋਈ ਜੁੱਲੀ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ ਮਿਲਦੀ, ਤੇ ਕਈ ਘਰਾਂ ਵਿਚ (ਬਿਸਤਰੇ ਦੇ ਥਾਂ) ਪਰਾਲੀ ਹੀ ਹੈ ।੧।
Some do not even have a poor patched coat, and some live in thatched huts. ||1||
ਅਹਿਰਖ ਵਾਦੁ ਨ ਕੀਜੈ ਰੇ ਮਨ ॥
ahirakh vaadh na keejai re man ||
(ਪਰ) ਹੇ ਮਨ! ਈਰਖਾ ਤੇ ਝਗੜਾ ਕਿਉਂ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈਂ?
Do not indulge in envy and bickering, O my mind.
ਸੁਕ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਲੀਜੈ ਰੇ ਮਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sukirat kar kar leejai re man ||1|| rahaau ||
ਨੇਕ ਕਮਾਈ ਕਰੀ ਜਾਹ ਤੇ ਤੂੰ ਭੀ (ਇਹ ਸੁਖ) ਹਾਸਲ ਕਰ ਲੈ ।੧।ਰਹਾਉ।
By continually doing good deeds, these are obtained, O my mind. ||1||Pause||
ਕੁਮ੍ਹਾਰੈ ਏਕ ਜੁ ਮਾਟੀ ਗੂੰਧੀ ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਬਾਨੀ ਲਾਈ ॥
kum(h)aarai ek ju maaTee goo(n)dhee bahu bidh baanee laiee ||
ਘੁਮਿਆਰ ਨੇ ਇਕੋ ਹੀ ਮਿੱਟੀ ਗੁੰਨ੍ਹੀ ਤੇ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਕਈ ਕਿਸਮ ਦੇ ਰੰਗ ਲਾ ਦਿੱਤੇ (ਭਾਵ, ਕਈ ਵੰਨਗੀਆਂ ਦੇ ਭਾਂਡੇ ਬਣਾ ਦਿੱਤੇ) ।
The potter works the same clay, and colors the pots in different ways.
ਕਾਹੂ ਮਹਿ ਮੋਤੀ ਮੁਕਤਾਹਲ ਕਾਹੂ ਬਿਆਧਿ ਲਗਾਈ ॥੨॥
kaahoo meh motee mukataahal kaahoo biaadh lagaiee ||2||
ਕਿਸੇ ਭਾਂਡੇ ਵਿਚ ਮੋਤੀ ਤੇ ਮੋਤੀਆਂ ਦੀਆਂ ਮਾਲਾਂ (ਮਨੁੱਖ ਨੇ) ਪਾ ਦਿੱਤੀਆਂ ਤੇ ਕਿਸੇ ਵਿਚ (ਸ਼ਰਾਬ ਆਦਿਕ) ਰੋਗ ਲਾਣ ਵਾਲੀਆਂ ਚੀਜ਼ਾਂ ।੨।
Into some, he sets pearls, while to others, he attaches filth. ||2||
ਸੂਮਹਿ ਧਨੁ ਰਾਖਨ ਕਉ ਦੀਆ ਮੁਗਧੁ ਕਹੈ ਧਨੁ ਮੇਰਾ ॥
soomeh dhan raakhan kau dheeaa mugadh kahai dhan meraa ||
ਸ਼ੂਮ ਨੂੰ ਧਨ ਜੋੜ ਕੇ ਰੱਖਣ ਲਈ ਜੁੜਿਆ ਹੈ, (ਅਤੇ) ਮੂਰਖ (ਸ਼ੂਮ) ਆਖਦਾ ਹੈ—ਇਹ ਧਨ ਮੇਰਾ ਹੈ ।
God gave wealth to the miser for him to preserve, but the fool calls it his own.
ਜਮ ਕਾ ਡੰਡੁ ਮੂੰਡ ਮਹਿ ਲਾਗੈ ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਕਰੈ ਨਿਬੇਰਾ ॥੩॥
jam kaa dda(n)dd moo(n)dd meh laagai khin meh karai niberaa ||3||
(ਪਰ ਜਿਸ ਵੇਲੇ) ਜਮ ਦਾ ਡੰਡਾ ਸਿਰ ਤੇ ਆ ਵੱਜਦਾ ਹੈ ਤਦੋਂ ਇਕ ਪਲਕ ਵਿਚ ਫ਼ੈਸਲਾ ਕਰ ਦੇਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਕਿ ਅਸਲ ਵਿਚ ਇਹ ਧਨ ਕਿਸੇ ਦਾ ਭੀ ਨਹੀਂ) ।੩।
When the Messenger of Death strikes him with his club, in an instant, everything is settled. ||3||
ਹਰਿ ਜਨੁ ਊਤਮੁ ਭਗਤੁ ਸਦਾਵੈ ਆਗਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈ ॥
har jan uootam bhagat sadhaavai aagiaa man sukh paiee ||
ਜੋ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਸੇਵਕ (ਬਣ ਕੇ ਰਹਿੰਦਾ) ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਪਰਮਾਤਮਾ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮ ਮੰਨ ਕੇ ਸੁਖ ਮਾਣਦਾ ਹੈ ਤੇ ਜਗਤ ਵਿਚ ਨੇਕ ਭਗਤ ਸਦਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ),
The Lord’s humble servant is called the most exalted Saint; he obeys the Command of the Lord’s Order, and obtains peace.
ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨੈ ਭਾਣਾ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਈ ॥੪॥
jo tis bhaavai sat kar maanai bhaanaa ma(n)n vasaiee ||4||
ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਦੀ ਰਜ਼ਾ ਮਨ ਵਿਚ ਵਸਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਨੂੰ ਭਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ ਉਸੇ ਨੂੰ ਹੀ ਠੀਕ ਸਮਝਦਾ ਹੈ ।੪।
Whatever is pleasing to the Lord, he accepts as True; he enshrines the Lord’s Will within his mind. ||4||
ਕਹੈ ਕਬੀਰੁ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਰੇ ਸੰਤਹੁ ਮੇਰੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਝੂਠੀ ॥
kahai kabeer sunahu re sa(n)tahu meree meree jhoottee ||
ਕਬੀਰ ਕਹਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ—ਹੇ ਸੰਤ ਜਨੋ! ਸੁਣੋ, “ਇਹ ਧਨ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਆਦਿਕ ਮੇਰਾ ਹੈ”—ਇਹ ਖ਼ਿਆਲ ਕੂੜਾ ਹੈ (ਭਾਵ, ਦੁਨੀਆ ਦੇ ਪਦਾਰਥਾਂ ਵਾਲੀ ਅਪਣੱਤ ਸਦਾ ਨਹੀਂ ਰਹਿ ਸਕਦੀ);
Says Kabeer, listen, O Saints – it is false to call out, “”Mine, mine.””
ਚਿਰਗਟ ਫਾਰਿ ਚਟਾਰਾ ਲੈ ਗਇਓ ਤਰੀ ਤਾਗਰੀ ਛੂਟੀ ॥੫॥੩॥੧੬॥
chiragaT faar chaTaaraa lai gio taree taagaree chhooTee ||5||3||16||
(ਜਿਵੇਂ, ਜੇ) ਪਿੰਜਰੇ ਨੂੰ ਪਾੜ ਕੇ (ਕੋਈ ਬਿੱਲਾ) ਚਿੜੇ ਨੂੰ ਫੜ ਕੇ ਲੈ ਜਾਏ ਤਾਂ (ਉਸ ਪਿੰਜਰੇ-ਪਏ ਪੰਛੀ ਦੀ) ਕੁੱਜੀ ਤੇ ਠੂਠੀ ਧਰੀ ਹੀ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੀ ਹੈ (ਤਿਵੇਂ, ਮੌਤ ਆਇਆਂ ਬੰਦੇ ਦੇ ਖਾਣ-ਪੀਣ ਵਾਲੇ ਪਦਾਰਥ ਇਥੇ ਹੀ ਧਰੇ ਰਹਿ ਜਾਂਦੇ ਹਨ) ।੫।੩।੧੬।
Breaking the bird cage, death takes the bird away, and only the torn threads remain. ||5||3||16||
